Island Resources FoundationFounded in 1972 by Dr. Ed Towle, Island Resources Foundation is a private, non-profit research and education organization. The foundation is dedicated to solving the environmental problems of development in small tropical islands. Project AWAREFounded in 1989, Project AWARE is a global organization organized with the purpose of preserving our underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. A nonprofit organization with offices throughout the world they seek partnerships with aquatics enthusiasts to combat challenges facing these environments. Although global in orientation, much of their work is directed towards island aquatic ecosystems, as these areas are home to fragile coral reefs housing countless species of marine life. SeacologySeacology is regarded as the world’s top nonprofit, nongovernmental organization (NGO) with the goal of preserving island environments, island cultures, island ecology and island marine ecosystems. Seacology has the sole and unique purpose of preserving the environments and cultures of islands throughout the globe. Through there efforts they have successfully preserved thousands of acres of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The Nature ConservancyA comprehensive global environmental protection agency that operates under an initiative termed conservation by design, which emphasizes identifying the most effective conservation action to achieve tangible, lasting results. The Nature Conservancy recognizes global island conservation as a priority. The Nature conservancy achieves astonishing results by working collaboratively and in the field with locals in order to foster sustainable economic development while also protecting fragile island ecosystems. |
