Environmental Protection
In 1831, Charles Darwin traveled to the Galapagos Islands on the HMS Beagle. Touring the island Darwin noticed variants in plants and animals from one island to the next. What came of these findings was Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, which has incalculably changed the way we understand nature, science and life itself.
What has also come from these findings is an appreciation of the unique biodiversity of islands. Today aggressive commercial development and lax environmental protection laws threaten many of these island ecosystems. Thus, we have created this page featuring environmental protection agencies that are aimed at protecting terrestrial, ocean and island ecosystems.
Many of these organizations provide ways that you can protect your island ecosystems or if you are not an island owner, ways you can contribute to any of the global environment protection initiatives.
